Health Projects

Previously no health center or hospital was found in the village, so people had to walk for several hours to the next infirmary. If the locals got sick they often died because there was no emergency assistance or because they couldn’t afford the costs. Tukee Nepal Society started a health fund for the poorest in the village and supported them to be treated in Dhadingbesi (the headquarter) or Kathmandu.

In June 2011 we started a health center in the village that covers for more than 9000 people. It has a staff of four persons. Instead of traveling far away, the locals can now get adequate health care for free, close to their home. Besides modern facilities there is also a pharmacy. In March 2012 the first baby was born at the new health post.

The health fund is currently still running because the flow of people who need treatment and can’t afford it won’t break off in the future. For severe problems that can’t be treated in Jyamrung the injured person will be transmitted to the city or like a current case even to Delhi where the facilities are more superior as in the hospital of Kathmandu.

Tukee Nepal Society is permanently looking for new sponsors for the health fund. Poor people who cannot afford health costs need to be supported in the future, as there is always a demand for money because the health center in the village needs to run permanently. The monthly expenses of EUR 1,000 a month (salary of staff, equipment, medicine) have to be paid and the organization has planned to upgrade the center so it can provide better quality and service. It’s also intended to hold a health camp twice a year about different subjects like dental or eye care, immunization or wound care and also to instruct people about hygiene or nutrition. For those subjects foreign volunteer doctors, nurses, midwives or any person working in the medical field are required at the health post to support the staff on-site.
