Woman's Empowerment

The Tukee Nepal Women Empowerment Project aims to improve women’s social and economic situation in rural areas where traditional attitudes remain strong. It is essential to improve women’s participation in economic activity to create more progressive social conditions in Nepal. The country is still largely dominated by traditional patriarchal attitudes that pay little attention to the potential of women. In recent years these roles are being redefined as the engagement of women in economic activity is increasing but progress is slow. Our aim is to speed this process and to assist in creating a healthier society with economically enabled women.

The Project Aims To:

1. Develop the potential of women in villages.
2. Allow women to participate in skills development training.
3. Provide an element of financial independence and contribute to family economic progress as a whole.
4. Promote social participation, cooperation, skills sharing and involvement in economic activities.
5. Provide essential start-up funding.
6. Bring about a gradual transformation in village women’s lifestyles away from their traditional domestic roles into economic activity.

Practical Programs:

1, Training in various fields – tayloring and knitting and farming (for profit)
2, Microfinance – small loans with payback but 0% int.
3, Education about Family health program and Social Empower. (cultural)

With the coordination of the local community, they will be encouraged to save their regular income and invest within the groups. The Jeanette Scroop Tukee Nepal Microloan Fund has been established to provide the essential initial support that we believe will empower women themselves to share loans within the village community as the project expands. The microfinance fund will enable the establishment of small businesses with a primary focus on women but which will also be available to men as funds allow.
